Birthday Party Ideas
On a weekend trip to a place where we ended the beginning of quarantine this spring, we found this fun “Fence of Hope” installation at a nearby church. The fence was covered with a colorful plastic tablecloth and we thought it would make a great backdrop for some photos. A few days later we were back again with the girls wearing rainbow colored outfits, a great place to take rainbow birthday party pictures!

This party is primarily an outdoor party, but I’m still looking for ways to add some indoor and outdoor decorations. August is too hot to leave desserts out, so I set up a dessert table to make it look nice when people come to get their desserts. The back is made of rainbow crepe paper and topped with a white glitter paper fan.
I made and hung a rainbow “Happy Birthday” banner out of cardstock and showed their ages on each end. Download this free SVG file to create one for your own rainbow birthday celebration!
Fortunately, when it comes to decorating the rest of your home, you don’t have to look far! Most of these pieces I pulled from Brielle’s bedroom which was already decorated in a theme The center piece is the Christmas card holder we made, now painted white with crepe paper and white cloud netting on top.
The creative Takes Courage framed sign inspired the invitations and favors for this party theme and is featured in this mantle collection.
Easy Blue’s Clues Birthday Party Ideas To Recreate (or Buy!)
Outside we added “Happy Birthday” balloons to our stash and some Unicorn grass signs out front. (I was gifted this unicorn grass sign from SHOUT Celebrations and thought it made a perfect picture here! Also, we got to photograph a group of kids here while we were shooting thin cannons at the party!
Decorate the girls themselves! To make the day extra special, both girls wore Unicorn Rainbow dresses and I added colorful hair to their double braided hair.
At the party, everyone had a little snack on individual bags of chips, crackers or pretzels. I split the frozen yogurt and gave each person a wetsuit holding ice! See how I make these for each child!
We brought pizza as an evening meal for our guests, but I played a Rainbow theme for the treats!

These rainbow cupcakes made with orange bars and white marshmallows are perfect for rainbow birthday celebrations!
These Rainbow Dot Cupcake Wrappers are my favorite because they are lined and are shiny and non-greasy when baked! They sell them in many other colors and patterns that I have used at other parties in the past, so I recommend checking out the theme for your next party.
Longtime readers know that I always choose cake papers for group birthday parties because no one wants to have cake with your kids!
Rainbow M&M Cookies (made with this recipe from Lil Luna) and Rice Krispies Treats round out the sweet treats.

Canned foods and packaged beverages are provided to guests, all stored in an outdoor cooler. But when it comes to options for kids, the large water dispenser comes with a small plastic water container for kids. I personalized them with a little vinyl so that (hopefully) everyone can set their own drink for the evening. Encourage them to take these home after the holidays!
We sent guests home with rainbow thank you tags attached. We were full of fruit snacks, rainbow fish, lollipops and other small toys from the previous shoots.
You can find these colorful rainbow tags in my etsy shop with the messages “My Party” and “Our Party” for single or multi-party players. Our Sam’s birthday is a few days after Christmas. So every year, it’s always a little bit like, “Hey, what are we going to do for Sam?!” When all the Christmas glitter falls away. With my birthday at Christmas, I was sensitive about letting his birthday get lost in all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. So even though
At the last minute, I tried to make her a special party with simple DIY projects and inexpensive decorations. This year, I’m sure Sam will want a Paw Patrol party, because that’s the phase we’re firmly in. So I was very surprised, amazed, when I ordered an “Elmo cake” and it didn’t run away even once. It’s actually good news for me, because recreating Elmo is easier than recreating the whole Pup team! Let me show you some easy Elmo birthday ideas we used this year if you have an Elmo lover in your house (and don’t have a lot of time!)!

If you go to Amazon or go to Party City and look for Elmo stuff, you’ll quickly see what it’s all about
For a one year birthday party. I like to “decorate” my party items, but I’m a bit underwhelmed by the Elmo napkins, balloons, etc. I quickly decided to use the colors of the little monster (red, black, orange and white) for our holiday style. This method not only allows me to use things
More than all the 1st birthday items, but still…ummm…it gave our Elmo party a “grown-up” feel. Suitable for 3 year olds!
I purchased a single Elmo design from the Cricut Design Space library (Waving Elmo #M4063E seen below) and used it in a variety of ways. Then I gathered some basic red, orange, white and black party supplies to pull the whole theme together.

Trick! Party City allows you to order online and pick up in store, as well as order balloons! It’s a great way to save time walking around the store and get what you need!
The result is really fun and refreshing, but also ELMO, the birthday show! I’ll never forget when Sam came downstairs and saw him planning his party for the first time: “It’s my Elmo party! It’s beautiful!”
Remember that time is of the essence here. I actually packed the whole party into one day… including the trip to the pub. This is what I did!
Top 10 Kids Birthday Party Theme Ideas In 2021
For every party I throw, I create a table centerpiece with a theme that we can use throughout the space. I find quick and easy ways to bring any theme to life, and I’ve broken down my tried and true formula here.
This time, I paired my favorite urban party tank with a graphic Elmo face (cut from vinyl and glued to the tank). I then cut a set of 3 from black, red and orange cardstock and glued them to the bowl (on wooden pegs) with red tissue paper.
The 3 extras are scattered around the table. For all snacks, I go through my cupboards for orange and red…including mixing bowls and paper soup bowls! All the food is in a color theme: Cheeze-Its, strawberries, mini Oreo cookies…and then leftover Christmas cookies!
Speaking of that Elmo face (again, just pulled from a larger Elmo graphic), I use it everywhere!

We wrap all birthday presents in red wrapping paper. Then I cut out some vinyl faces (same as the red bowl) and attached them to the gift. Not only did our current pile stay on topic, but they served as great decorations!
The red tablecloth and center table bring a party theme to the kitchen and adjoining family room, but it’s the screen behind the window that makes it feel so fun!
The main focus of the entire display is a large Elmo that I cut out of poster board. I have a full tutorial on how I made this big Elmo here.
They’re a great way to make an entire space more colorful and themed for just a few bucks!
Birthday Party Ideas For A 6 Year Old That Are Serious Fun
At first, I ordered this big Elmo balloon. But when they went to burn it, they found that the storage box was faulty and the balloon had holes in it. Instead I decided to get a big red balloon and add another vinyl Elmo face. In the end, I still get it
