Create a focal point. We added this propane fire pit which creates a cozy and comfortable place to sit.
Fire is also a source of heat, which makes it fun to spend time outside on cool days and evenings. It also helps extend our patio season.
A couple of years ago we invested in a set of quality patio furniture and they have proven themselves well. If your area is not covered, you will want to cover or bring a pillow for the winter months in most areas. Adding comfy cushions and throws will also help create a cozy feel in your outdoor seating area.
By arranging our furniture around the fire pit and covering it all with a rug, we make our spacious patio cozier. With the high vaulted ceiling, it may seem a little small, but the furniture we used was comfortable and close-knit.
Small Patio Decorating Ideas
I love bright colors outside and you can see them brighter than indoors because the colors look more saturated in natural light. This year I added terracotta/coral to my navy blue patio pillows from last season.
I think the greenery really makes the deck decor stand out; and it is also probably the easiest to add. I love doing lots of foliage plants – especially ferns! They add a lot of warmth and texture to the room. I also added some flower pots, but we won’t be able to enjoy them until the end of the season, while the ferns add a sense of coziness throughout the season.

Many of us have mastered the art of decorating indoors, but when it comes to decorating outside, we may need a little help. It is not difficult to decorate the street, only we do not inherit a clear choice. We know how to set the table in the dining room, the sofa in the living room and the bed in the bedroom. But what exactly should we do with our deck?
Fortunately, deck decorating ideas are plentiful and can be as low-maintenance or as elaborate as desired. Want to turn your deck into a dining room? Do, because you can easily change it with a pair of comfortable chairs.
Start by looking at the space you’re working on, think about how you want it to look, and go from there. To fuel your inspiration, we’ve rounded up 22 stunning decks—and design ideas to steal each one.
Colorful Backyard Decor Ideas To Refresh Your Porch Or Patio
When decorating your deck, you’ll want to find ways to add function and form. It should not only be a beautiful place, it should also be a pleasant place. An easy way to find that balance? Build an outdoor dining room.
If you have space to store a dining table and chairs, and if you have a canopy that allows you to eat in any weather, take full advantage. Turn your summer meals into outdoor activities and prepare them for your seasonal retreat.
Work nice and can also be hard. But items that meet these requirements exist, and they can transform your deck.
Expand your lighting search beyond classic string lights to elegant pendant lights, dramatic pendant lights, and other outdoor options.
Patio Ideas That Will Make You Want To Live Outside
Seating is important in any outdoor space, and when you’re working with a deck, you have options for creating seating. Because decks tend to be fairly rectangular, swivel seating is relatively easy to create: simply line the edges of your deck with a low-profile bench.
Whether you confine them to one corner or let them cross the deck, they’ll add a welcome dose of functionality to your space.
Everyone loves a good campfire, and if you live in a cooler climate, a campfire can extend the life of your logs well past the summer. Of course, the fire pit, as a rule, cost a penny. But if you know you’ll be using it often, it’s probably worth the investment.
Since the fire pit is usually smooth, you can make it decorative when not in use.
Creative Ways To Perk Up Your Porch And Patio On A Budget
If you don’t have an indoor breakfast area, consider making one outside. Even the small terrace is big enough to accommodate a bistro table and a few chairs. Small additions like these can make your deck more interesting. So, look for ways to add that little bit of coziness—you’ll thank yourself later.
If you have a large deck, it may be a good idea to break the space up into segments. Reserve one seat for eating, one seat for grilling and one seat for lounging, or organize your meal as you like.
Think of your deck as an open concept interior and create boundaries around the “rooms” you want to create or the activities you want to enjoy outside.
Patio furniture usually comes in a matching arrangement. But if you want to put together your own set, go ahead. There’s no rule that says your patio furniture has to match, so pair a wooden table with some rattan chairs and add some painted metal.

These pieces can help you expand your seating arrangement and also make your deck more dynamic.
Most of us don’t use the corner of our deck enough. These spots become implicit boundaries, giving us an easy way to structure our outdoor spaces. Look at your corners and think about whether they are living up to their full potential. Can your corner be a fence, an entertainment corner, or just a place to sit?
Outdoor furniture is usually quite smooth, but it doesn’t have to be. There’s a range of outdoor linens on offer, so you can stock up on all the plush throws, cozy cushions and pillows you want.
Sure, these items may seem unnecessary, but they can make your deck feel great. And since we are all about form and function, this makes a big difference.

If you have an overhang built in, take advantage of it. These overhangs can protect your deck from the elements, giving you a sheltered place to place your most luxurious outdoor furniture. Build a comfortable alfresco living room, an elegant alfresco dining room, or any other space of your dreams.
Street furniture, as a rule, is quite formulaic. You get the right patio furniture, hang the lights, and you’re good to go, right? But if you’re looking for something more adventurous, hope is not lost.
There’s a lot of fun outdoor furniture and decor out there, so whether you’re looking for a bright chandelier or a fun set of dining chairs, rest assured that you can make it happen.
Your deck can be a big space. But by breaking it into several smaller spaces, you can maximize its functionality.
