Small Side Porch Decorating Ideas
Good Friday! I hope you had a wonderful week! This week’s Friday Favorites is a little different because I’m participating in a blog hop with some other fun blogs! Spring weather is starting here and I can’t wait to spend the days outside. It was nice to get our yard ready for the season so we could use the space all spring and summer. Our front entryway is very small and styling can be a challenge, but with a few small updates we were able to create a space we love. Even on a small terrace, you can add a small conversation area. There may be only one small chair or stool, but it makes the place very cozy!
This year we found a small patio chair. Last year we were able to fit a swing. You can see our terrace from last summer HERE. While I absolutely LOVE having a rocking chair on the porch, it was a bit big for the small space. It was a very functional decoration, but it didn’t look right there. We used the chair all the time, mostly me, but sometimes I would catch the kids sitting reading a book.
I was actually ready to put the rocking chair back on the porch, but when I realized it needed to be repainted, I reconsidered. Then my six year old and I were at Target on the patio and found lots of fun outdoor chairs! I brought home this little patio chair and then asked the kids what they liked best.

Porch Decorating Ideas For An Inviting Entryway
The material of the chair is very nice! It can be wet and dry very well. It really is a very comfortable chair, especially with a pillow!
When you’re working with a small decorating budget, you want to make sure you look everywhere for home decor, including places you’d never think of. That rocking chair I mentioned was actually a garage sale! I have been known to pick up small pieces of furniture from the side of the road. (Don’t be ashamed to admit it!)
This year I got a spectacular spring yard in an unexpected place. You won’t believe where I got the white table from!
FIVE below of all places! I was at Five Below the other day with the kids and it’s full of beautiful home and garden items! No reason to spend more money on something that might last more than a year! I find that outdoor furniture, no matter how much wear and tear, doesn’t last as long as I’d like!

I love adding pillows and blankets to our patio chair. However, a pillow or blanket may not work if you have an exposed space. Even though our space is covered, the pillow will take a beating from the weather, so I’ll be sure to choose an outdoor pillow. If the weather is bad, I try to remember to bring a pillow and a blanket.
The laminate door look is still a big trend. You can add a little style and your own personality with a fun doormat. For an even richer look, add a layered doily look. Find a larger rug pattern for the base, then add a smaller, fun door for the top layer.
We’ve had this black and white rug for a few years now and I still LOVE it. This is similar to a black and white rug. The carpet has held up very well and even after a few years there is no need to replace it. However, door handles do not last long and usually need to be replaced every year, especially after a long winter!

I was so excited to put up my new lemon doormat that I’ve been talking about since I bought it a few months ago! The front door was the inspiration for the porch, where I added little yellows! I’ll be sure to include more of that when I get the rest of our summer flowers.

If it’s in your budget, consider a new light fixture. Good lighting can give your small yard a “sophisticated look”. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on patio lights. There are many options at Home Depot and Lowes.
Whether you have a new front door or an older door that has seen better days, a new crown can give it a fresh look! Stick to a neutral wreath with lots of greenery if you plan to use it throughout the seasons. If you choose one with lots of flowers, you may need to change it more often to match the season.
Decorating A Screened In Porch: Our Budget Makeover
If you’re on a tight budget for patio decor, one of the cheapest decorating tricks is to use flowers and plants to fill the space. Save the most money by buying flowers in flats (not in pots) and then planting the flowers in cheap containers.
Plants and flowers also add color and joy to the terrace. You can also choose flowers that match the color theme of your small yard. In my case, I paired it with my flowers in yellow and white.
Decide what you want from the space and focus on your priorities. Do you want a seat? Do you prefer lots of plants and flowers? Do you need a new crown or carpet?
In my case, our porch was complete after a few more decorations. The blanket and pillow were things I already had. I bought the yellow pot from Kirklands. Then I added another plant, which was a $10 deal at Whole Foods! (You never know where you’ll find home decor!). Also, the wreath was on sale at Home Depot! (similar HERE).
Fall Front Porch Decorating Ideas On A Budget
You don’t have to completely renew your ticket every season. Take a look at what you already have to work on, and mix in some new stuff.
The key is to take the time to fill the space. Over the past few months I’ve been slowly putting things together and this all came together. Sometimes when you go out and decorate a space in a short amount of time, you end up buying things you don’t really like. Focus on one key decor element that you love and then build the rest of the space around that piece!
