Dolly Parton And Kenny – Amid wild thunderstorms and thunderstorms in South Dakota, Kenny Rogers sat down to talk about his upcoming show at Dollywood. The concert will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. He also talked about his relationship with Dolly over the years.

And 25 years later I was there and I have to tell you that I have two 11 year old boys and they prefer Dollywood to Disney World. Of course, Dolly and Kenny’s friendship began long before they opened their own theme park in the Smoky Mountains. They first met on Dolly’s TV show, but it wasn’t until they recorded their first hit, Islands in the Stream, that they really got to know each other. I was on the TV show Dolly, who had a big butterfly on the wall. And I did one of my records, I think it was the first one I did with Warner Bros. and I did that and I met him. In each other’s company he makes me laugh and apparently I make him laugh. I’ve seen several films of us on stage and I’ve never seen two people act better on stage than me and Dolly.”
Kenny’s upcoming concert will benefit Dolly’s Imagination Library, a book donation program that has sent more than 72 million free books to children around the world to date. When we called those numbers to Kenny, even he was surprised by the effort, saying:

Kenny has generously donated his world tour over the years to D.P. Dollywood Celebrity Theater as the newest artist to perform at the Star Showcase concert series. However, not wanting to miss an opportunity to tease his old friend, Kenny said,
“I heard [Daly] already did it … but we didn’t get [the book], so put me on the list. Tell Dolly she owes me a lot. (Laughs) Tell him he’s always underpaid me and I’m sick of it.”

When we recorded the last song, “You Can’t Make Old Friends,” I didn’t see it for two or three years. He came to the studio and it was like yesterday we were together. I think that’s a great quality because people always know where they stand with him and their relationship.”

Kenny will continue his tour on October 3rd in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which is also home to the Dolly’s Pirates Voyage Dinner Attraction. Additionally, in November Kenny will embark on a new tour in support of his latest album, Once Again It’s Christmas, with several guests including Jennifer Nettles. Kenny and Dolly’s mutual friend Nettles will play Dolly’s mother in the upcoming NBC TV movie Dolly Parton’s Color Coat.
Nothing is known yet about the duet’s other project plans. Now, these two old friends are more than happy to work together to bring more books to more children.
