I’m here to tell you that as a second career dodger you have something that can be incredibly powerful for your career. Counter-intuitive, this energy is often seen as a source of confusion.
Previous work can be emphasized as a special skill that complements your new technical skills.
Were you a businessman? You carry a very valuable lesson in customer relations with you. Hiring managers interested in recruiting can get in touch with the client.
Were you a teacher? You have invaluable experience in planning semester and annual courses that can be easily adapted to planning complex projects.

A second career helps with tuition, books, transportation, and basic living expenses. There is no specific list of secondary vocational schools – you can study at any educational institution of your choice as long as it is not a private private school or a public college or university. Work with a career consultant to find the right solution. Since the program began in June 2008, more than 85,000,000 permits have been issued. In 2014-15 alone, over 20% were over 50.
After more than 30 years as an insurance executive, Linda Ravary-McIntosh had to take a break and eventually found herself unable to return to the field. A temporary job at Tim Hortons helped him make ends meet, but she was later fired. “I was starting to feel worried about my future,” she admits. Ravary-McIntosh admits she feels “nervous” about entering school for the first time in more than 30 years, but she soon realized, with the help of her teachers, classmates and family, that she was the right choice for her. An important part of her plan was placing her at North Bay Medical Center. After graduating with an average of 95% and being chosen as a farewell, she has landed a job in a medical center, where she continues to thrive.

After the course, Murphy now had to find a job, a challenge in his neck of the woods. I was working full time trying to find a job. Murphy said. Terry Snider was 50 when he was fired and his job prospects were slim. He had a pharmaceutical technology degree no longer valid in Ontario and had been working as a self-employed nutrition consultant for 10 years. During that time, he noticed an increasing level of dependence among his clients and wanted to have the opportunity to work as a consultant to change people’s behavior.
After Snider graduated from Sir Sanford Fleming University, he volunteered at the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) free hotline and his supervisor and his volunteering were noticed by the manager. She was hired by CMHA and has since worked as a mental health consultant and housing supervisor in a transitional housing facility for people with mental health problems.

Lesson learned: “I felt trapped because I couldn’t find a job with my old skills. I was disappointed, but I knew that if I was given the opportunity to go back to college, I would do well, “Snider said.” The financial support from the program allowed me to focus on my studies. “
During his 21-year career with the auto construction company, James Hereygers held a variety of positions: mechanic, foreman, shop manager and project manager, before being fired suddenly in May 2013. “He was hired.
